Nixon Chronograph Watch FAQs
A chronograph watch is simply a watch built with stopwatch functionality. This is achieved through a chronograph subdial, a common complication controlled by pushers usually positioned on the case near the crown, and depending on the model, a chrono watch may track seconds, minutes, or even hours.
Most chronograph watches use two pushers: one to start and stop the timer, and another to reset it back to zero. Press the start/stop pusher once to begin timing and again to stop, then press and hold the reset pusher when you want to return the chronograph to its starting point. On the 51-30 Chrono, our most popular chrono model, the top pusher controls start/stop while the bottom pusher handles reset, and since these pushers screw down, you'll need to unscrew them counterclockwise before use and screw them back in before water exposure. For more detail, our blog covers how to use a chronograph step by step.
On watches like the 51-30 Chrono, the hand that looks like a standard seconds hand is actually the chronograph hand, and it only moves once you start the chronograph function. We recommend keeping this hand switched off when it's not actively timing something, since running it constantly will drain the battery faster.
